This qualification is for students who require First Aid skills that may be applied in a range of situations, including community and workplace settings. The program is suitable for students learning to apply first aid training for the first time or those who are undertaking a first aid refresher training or validation for their apply first aid skills for their workplace requirements. The RTO Shop is delivering this qualification with partnership with Start Training Academy (RTO Id: 91349).
The course provides students with the ability to:
• Respond to signs of an unconscious casualty
• Perform CPR
• Communicate relevant incident details
• Respiratory and cardiac emergencies
• Bleeding and shock
• Acute medical emergencies
• Musculoskeletal injuries
• Traumatic injuries to head, spine, chest abdomen and pelvis
• Poisons, bites, stings and extremes of temperature.
Entry Requirements:
There are no pre-requisites for this course however students will require basic literacy and numeracy skills.

8 hours
HLTFA301B Apply First Aid is delivered under a flexible delivery program. The completion of a work book (home study) is compulsory prior to the attendance of the one day course. This workbook forms part of the student’s assessment.

What will you learn?
Students will receive a statement of attainment for HLTFA301B Apply First Aid.
This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid response, life support, management of casualty(s), the incident and other first aiders, until the arrival of medical or other assistance. This course was previously known as Senior First Aid and incorporates HLTCPR201A Perform CPR and HLTFA201A Provide Basic Emergency Life Support.
Note: As per the Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines the HLTCPR201A Perform CPR unit needs to be completed every 12 months.

How will you be assessed?
This unit of competence is assessed on three occasions using a combination of written exam, workbook completion and practical assessment.
Recognition of Prior Learning and Credit Transfer
Students can apply for recognition of previous study, work, life and educational experience that matches the units of competency or qualification being considered.
Students applying for recognition of existing skills and knowledge must provide evidence to support their claim.
Examples of evidence might include: documentation such as certificates issued by other training organisations, support letters from employers; job description, resume or an outline of previous training and development.
We also recognise the credentials issued by other training organisations operating under the Australian Quality Training Framework.

What next?
Upon completion of this unit of competence, students will be eligible to work as a first aid officer in a workplace. They will also be eligible to attempt the HLTFA403A Manage First Aid in the Workplace which will enable them to work as an Occupational First Aider in any workplace or to undertake Advanced First Aid.
Students not completing this unit for workplace reasons will still have the ability to assist in any emergency situation including motor vehicle accidents etc.
